Robert Ellis Smith

Founder & Ex-Publisher

Robert Ellis Smith was an attourney and journalist focused mainly on the topic of data privacy. In his lifetime, he published several works, including Privacy: How to Protect What’s Left of It, The Law of Privacy Explained, and edited over 40 editions of the Compilation of State and Federal Privacy Laws.

During his long career devoted to educating the public about privacy, he regularly published a newsletter called Privacy Journal, with the first issue printed all the way back in 1974. Although Robert is no longer with us, we hope to keep his legacy alive by continuing to inform our readers about the privacy of their data and how to protect it in this increasingly online world.
